The X 104.9 FM transmits at just under 1,000 Watts from our Old Town Studio on Fleming Street under the FCC license of WXKW and broadcasting 24/7 non stop in Key West for the past 10 years. We are heard up the Keys as far as Baby’s Coffee at mile marker 12.5, and as far South as the Dry Tortuga’s. We also stream live on www.thexkeywest.org to an average of 100,000 listeners per day.
We not only reach the Mid to Upper Florida Keys online, but we have also had global response from listeners in Miami, Tampa, St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tallahassee, New Orleans, Fayetteville AK, Chicago, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Los Angeles, Catalina Island, Hawaii, the Philippines, US Virgin Islands, Britain, France, Sweden, and Norway, as well as South America.
Our listening audience seems be men, woman, both gay and straight, short and tall, rich and poor, and of all races, ranging between 14 years of age and 80. With a wide variety of listeners being professionals, as well as working class such as bartenders, chefs, shop workers, cab drivers, and waitresses. We are also big all across the Key West Mooring Field ‘affordable’ housing with the Boat Air B&B’s & the “Boat” people. We estimate our listeners in Key West of representing approximately 10% of the 25,000 people who live here, potentially an average of 2,500 listeners. We are also a favorite with business owners because of the type of music we play – Adult Alternative, Classic Rock, Blues, Reggae, Trop Rock, as well as featuring local music, local weather and news.

Sunday Mornings – The X News Hour – with J.D. Adler and Lisa Booker, starting at 10am with Stupid Criminals, Science News and Local News you won’t hear anywhere else. As well as a weekday “News Quicky” at 5pm (ish) on The Bucky Show. Key West Show Rocks at Night – with Reverend Gweko aka (The Soundman From Hell) – appearing almost Nightly after 8pm and Sunday Nights Too! Featuring – Great Eccentric Music from the Soundman From Hell’s Music Vaults As Well as Local Interviews with Political and Community Leaders and Musicians – Plus our series of random Live Event Remotes from all over Key West.

Unfortunately there are no Nielsen reports, or Arbitron polls to confirm any listeners in the radio business in Key West. Key West’s population is estimated to be 26,990, which shows some growth since the 2010 population of 24,649 people. The city’s total area is over 7 square miles and has a population density of over 4,819 people per square mile.
